Youthfest is an event put together by the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) with the goal of fostering the first African-American U.S. Ski Team Member. The article talks extensively about Pats Peak efforts to bring diversity to its facility and its efforts to introduce inner city kids to snow sports. As part of this effort, Pats Peak has partnered with Youth Enrichment Services (YES) of Boston for the past ten years on its P-O-P (Pay One Price) Saturday night program, which has been wildly successful. Pats Peaks efforts have proven both socially and economically successful. Youthfest itself was a three-day race event that brought minorities from all over the region. Young skiers were given the opportunity to interact with U.S. Development team member Julia Ford and build their skills. Overall, the event is about developing a life-long love of the sport in minority youths and creating a welcoming environment for all skiers and boarders.
